I have been employed with Hickory Public Schools for over 15 years.  I enjoy working with the students and staff at Longview.

I recently graduated from Appalachian State University with a Masters of Arts Degree in K-12 Curriculum and Instruction.  In 2004, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  My husband and I have 2 dogs.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading and relaxing on the beach.  I love the challenge of learning new things and making each day count.

Reading is so important!  Reading to and with your child is one of the most influential things you can do to help your child be successful at school. Set aside time each night to listen to your child read or to read with your child.  Finding topics that your interest child will help them to grow a love for learning and reading.

Math is also a very important skill for students to obtain.  You can help your child at home by practicing math facts like addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts.  As your student advances in their math skills, these foundational skills must be in place for a higher-level of learning.  Math is an important life skill that students will need as they become more independent.  Working with flashcards for 10 minutes a day with your child is an excellent way to build their mathematical fluency and spend some time with your child.  Bring the whole family in one the fun and make it a competition!
